Location I live in Oxford, Michigan. I service Southeast Michigan, from parts of Oakland county to parts of Lapeer, Macomb and Wayne counties.
Philosophy I believe in building a long term trust relationship with my customers because pianos along with their owners can live a long happy life. I want to do what is best for you and your piano not just sell you all I can. I believe an informed customer will do what is best for their piano only when they trust what I tell them.
Experience I am an expert in tuning, voicing and action regulation. I service concert stage pianos for top national performers and at schools, banquet halls, churches and in homes including many piano teachers and professional musicians. Early in my career I briefly worked for a piano dealer selling pianos and I then worked for a short time with a piano re-builder. I have been the head technician at the Detroit International Jazz Festival since 1995. I also was a staff technician at Hammell Music for 11 years before going into business for myself in 2001.
Education I completed a Piano Tuning and Technology course at Oakland University with an A in 1986. I then apprenticed with Oakland's staff technician Richard Thurston, for two years. In 1991 I passed the Piano Technicians Guild exams to become an RPT, "Registered Piano Technician" Out of 1800 surveyed that year I was one of only three under the age of thirty to become an RPT in the U.S. I have had factory training from Yamaha in California at their "Little Red School House" and "Diskclavier" player piano programs and a one week piano service lab at Steinway in New York. I also have Pianodisk player piano training. Being in the Piano Technicians Guild continues to give me education opportunities and keeps me sharp by reading their technical journals. Recently achieved Dampp-Chaser Certified Installer Certificate.
Other service I do repairs and action reconditioning, restringing, field expert installer for humidity control systems, appraisals, insurance work and consultations. I can help if you need a piano moving referral or answering the question, “Is it worth rebuilding or should I buy something to replace the old clunker?” I can refer you to someone I trust if I do not do the work myself.
I have experience prepping new pianos for piano stores selling the best pianos in the world and I will give you my unbiased opinion what pianos are the best for your situation. I know what your piano should be capable of and if it is not performing as it should I can solve the problems.
I also sell some piano related products. “Dampp-Chaser, Piano Life Saver Systems”, benches, covers, locks, lamps and dollies.
I hope you will choose me to be your piano technician.
